  • About Fiscal Responsibility and Leadership
Q: Did the board members waste a significant amount of money and mismanage the district? Their claim: “The three have wasted upwards of a million dollars by firing the superintendent without cause, racking up lawsuits, hiring political operatives as legal counsel and contractors for the district." This requires a two-part answer. Regarding the firing of the superintendent: A1: Simply put, the roll of a superintendent is to reflect and to carry out the vision and mission of the school board that has been voted in by the people. She was aligned with a prior board and policies that no longer represented the current board majority. By extension, it was impossible to expect her to carry forward with the direction of the new board. Regarding Money Management A2. No. The new school board has NOT mismanaged money. The recall proponents have inflated numbers by including costs for necessary and standard district business. This is a clear effort to give the public shocking numbers to sway opinion. Additionally, when leadership changes, there is always an investment required that leads to a stronger community in the long run. The inability for the superintendent to facilitate the mission of the new board majority, brought with it a need for new legal counsel, strategists, and administrative leadership. As a community, we must never forget the superintendent's policies that created a hostile environment and impacted student progress. Hostile Environment: The superintendent created an environment of hostility toward any teacher who took exception to her policies. Many teachers were afraid to speak out for fear of retaliation. Poor Leadership The superintendent kept YOUR KIDS out of school and mandated the mask and vaccine policy during the pandemic. The grades and progress of your children under the superintendent's tenure declined. The superintendent did NOT acquire parental input on new curriculum until AFTER the new board was elected and discovered that this had not been done properly. The superintendent allowed for student and union activism to drive an agenda. She failed to facilitate or follow through with board decisions.
  • Addressing Legal & Ethical Concerns
Q: Have the new board members violated laws and regulations? Their claim: “They have violated the US and California Constitution, California State law including multiple educational codes and the Brown Act through their policies, procedures, and misconduct. They are currently being investigated by the state for civil rights violations.” A. No. Allegations of violating laws and regulations have been thoroughly investigated and found unsubstantiated. The state's investigation primarily focuses on the ban on CRT as a civil rights issue, not a parental rights issue. The board members have consistently stood for parental involvement and have been elected to uphold these values. A Few Facts: The Brown act violation accusation was investigated and found unsubstantiated. The state is investigating the idea that banning CRT is a civil rights issue. Not a parental rights issue. The accusation regarding books being "banned" is unfounded. The board has not banned books. They have modified materials to be age-appropriate and educationally suitable. Ed Code dictates that this is to be a collaborative effort through teachers, parents, and community members and should not infringe upon the rights of parents to determine what is in the best interest of their child. Parents retain the right to teach their children according to their personal belief structure. The state believes that you as parents are incapable of deciding what is best for your children. Your state believes the only person with civil rights is your child, NOT you. The board members refuse to rubber stamp policy and are being targeted by the state and unions as a result.
  • Additional Key Facts
Dr. Joseph Komrosky, Jen Wiersma, and Danny Gonzalez were elected in 2022, promising a return to the fundamentals of education and giving voice back to parents. They are standing strong in their resolve to deliver on these promises! The recall effort is primarily driven by the teachers' union which does not represent the views of all teachers; and community activists - many of whom are coming in from outside the area and do not represent the Temecula Valley. A recall will slap district tax-payers with a significant bill of $200,000 or more, diverting resources from providing a high quality education for our students.
